underhood Diagnostic Connector
To reset indicator
after performing an engine oil and filter change. Turn off all
accessories and place ignition switch in ON position with engine
stopped. Position reset tool No. 62- 1-100 and, if necessary,
adapter 62-
1-142, or
equivalents, into diagnostic connector. Depress and hold yellow OIL
SERVICE button of reset tool. Green function control lamp should be
illuminated. After approximately ten seconds, the yellow lamp should
illuminate for approximately three seconds, then turn off. Release
tool oil service button, then check instrument panel LEDs. At least
one additional green LED should be illuminated and the yellow or red
LED and OIL SERVICE indicator should be off.
2001 3 Series,
5 Series, M5, X & 2002-03 Models w/o Underhood Diagnostic Connector
Place ignition switch in the OFF position. Press and hold the trip
odometer reset button located on the instrument cluster, then place
ignition switch in ACCESSORY position. Keep reset button depressed
for at least five seconds until “OIL SERVICE” or “INSPECTION”
message is displayed with RESET or RE. On some instrument clusters,
fuel remaining in liters until the next service is displayed. Press
the reset button again and hold for five seconds until the RESET or
RE message flash. While the display is flashing, briefly press reset
button to reset service interval. After the new service interval has
been displayed, “END SIA’ will be displayed for two seconds. The
service interval cannot be reset again until the vehicle has been
driven 50 to 75 miles.
